Pulling the plug on Analog Broadcast TV (again)

by admin on Jun.11, 2009, under Industry News

Tomorrow,  June 12, 2009, marks the day that all full-power television stations nationwide must begin broadcasting exclusively in a digital format and pulling the plug on analog broadcast TV for good.  The deadline, originally February 17, 2009,  had been extended by The U.S. Congress in an effort to put more DTV converters in households.

Low-power stations may continue broadcasting in analog, however, without any change.  Many consumers aren’t aware of the differences between low-power and full-power television stations as very little information is ever presented by the media.  The fact is that many many analog television stations will remain broadcasting in analog. This site maintains a list of low-power stations searchable by ZIP code.

What does this mean for you, the consumer?  Ensure that any DTV converter you purchase has the analog pass-through feature.  Here is a list of approved DTV Converters with analog pass-through.
